The rod seal prevents the pressurized hydraulic fluid within the cylinder from leaking. Leakage can lead to reduced equipment performance, system failure, and environmental\/safety issues.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10283 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/hallite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Rod-Seals-in-a-hydraulic-cylinder-_HALLITE-300x248.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"248\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As illustrated at right, <a href=\"https:\/\/hallite.com\/au\/products\/rod-seals-au\/\">rod seals<\/a> are dynamic seals that are positioned inside the cylinder head (also called gland) and compressed against the cylinder\u2019s rod, thus containing the fluid, which allows pressure to be generated. Some rod seals are engineered specifically for demanding applications that are subject to extreme and arduous operating conditions. These designs are commonly found in medium- to heavy-duty construction, off-highway, excavating and <a href=\"https:\/\/hallite.com\/au\/expertise\/markets\/mining\/\">mining equipment<\/a>.
