E’ importante che la tenuta smorzatore consenta un’adeguata lubrificazione della principale tenuta e non causi un accumulo di pressione tra se stessa la principale tenuta. Il design di una tenuta smorzatore ha questa particolare condizione, quella di fare passare la pressione gradualmente.

Il principale presupposto di una tenuta smorzatore è la protezione della principale tenuta stelo dagli effetti di uno shock di carico sulla pressione.
